Overview
Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering was established in 1979 and forms part of the Dayananda Sagar Institutions campus at Shavige Malleshwara Hills, Kumaraswamy Layout, in south Bengaluru. The wider campus includes medical, dental, management and pharmacy institutions, which gives it real scale.
DSCE occupies an important position in any sensible Bengaluru shortlist: it is the strongest option for a large band of students whose ranks fall short of RVCE, BMSCE or MSRIT but who want a full-featured city campus with proper laboratories, a wide branch spread and a functioning placement cell.
It is autonomous under VTU. Intake is generous relative to the colleges above it, which means the branch you want is more likely to be reachable — and it also means the cohort is larger and more varied, so what you get out of it depends more on your own initiative than it might elsewhere.
Admission routes
DSCE fills its seats through the routes below. Which of these you are eligible for depends on your schooling history and domicile, not only on your rank — and getting that wrong is the single most common reason students miss a seat they could have had.
The government quota is allotted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority on KCET rank, and carries the lowest fee by a considerable margin. COMEDK seats are allotted by the consortium on COMEDK UGET rank and are open to candidates from any state. Management seats are filled by the institution directly, at a substantially higher fee.

Please read this before planning around the table. Closing ranks move every year with the seat matrix, applicant volume and the round in question, and they differ substantially by category. Reserved-category, rural and Kannada-medium closing ranks are frequently far higher than the general-merit figures shown. A branch that closes at one rank in round one may close several thousand ranks later after mop-up. Verify current figures with KEA and COMEDK, or ask us for the full category-wise breakdown against your own rank.

Fees
Fees depend entirely on which quota your seat comes from, and the difference between them is large — often several times over across four years. We describe them in bands here rather than quoting figures, because published amounts change annually and a stale number on a website is worse than no number at all.

When you budget, cost the whole degree, not year one: tuition across four years, hostel and mess if applicable, one-time admission and caution deposits, examination fees, and the fee revisions that tend to arrive from the second year. Placements
- A solid volume recruiting record, with service-sector IT firms hiring in numbers and a reasonable spread of core and product companies alongside.
- Outcomes vary more widely within the cohort than at the colleges above — students who engage with the placement cell early and build projects independently do markedly better.
- The scale of the campus means more companies visit overall; read the branch-wise breakdown rather than the aggregate figure.
How to read any placement claim. Ask for three numbers: the percentage placed in your branch, the median package for your branch, and the list of recruiters who made offers rather than merely visited. A headline "highest package" figure describes one student's outcome and tells you almost nothing about your own likely one.
Campus & student life
The campus at Shavige Malleshwara Hills is large and reasonably green, with the wider Dayananda Sagar complex adding sports facilities, a hospital and a good deal of activity around it. Hostels for men and women are available on and near campus.
Kumaraswamy Layout is well connected within south Bengaluru and the Metro's reach has improved access considerably. Students from Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Banashankari and Kanakapura Road find the commute manageable.
The cohort is large, and campus life reflects that — plenty of clubs, festivals and teams, but you have to seek them out rather than being carried along. This is the main way in which the experience differs from a smaller college.

A good fit if
- Students in the mid rank bands who want a large, well-equipped campus in the city.
- Anyone interested in Aeronautical or Automobile Engineering as a full department.
- Students living in south Bengaluru who want to stay at home.
- Students who are self-directed and will make use of a big campus rather than waiting to be organised.
Look elsewhere if
- Students whose ranks comfortably reach RVCE, BMSCE or MSRIT — those colleges give you more for the same four years.
- Anyone who would do better in a small cohort where the department knows every student by name.
